A Tour of San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39

When it comes to California, San Francisco is definitely a city that all travel-loving visitors want to revisit. Aside from the most iconic Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf are arguably the area’s most popular attractions.

San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf roughly covers the area from Ghirardelli Square in the northern waters of San Francisco to Pier 35, with Pier 39 being the most famous among them. Most visitors coming from the downtown area take San Francisco’s classic cable cars, weaving through the city’s mix of old and new neighborhoods. Once you catch the scent of sea breeze and see the fearless seagulls, it means you’re not far from the renowned Fisherman’s Wharf.

Within Fisherman’s Wharf, the most visitor-friendly spot is Pier 39, where you can enjoy views of Angel Island, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. There’s also a local market where you can pick up souvenirs like magnets, stationery, and accessories.

Walking along the streets near Pier 39, you can catch impromptu street performances at various times. If you’re hungry, you can indulge in the area’s famous crab meals or chowder served in bread bowls. Then, through floor-to-ceiling windows, you can watch the sunset—even without champagne, just sipping coffee or cola makes the trip worthwhile.
