Scoot’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet expands again; new medium- to long-haul destinations to be added in the second half of the year

Singapore-based low-cost carrier Scoot in Asia-Pacific added a new Dreamliner, the Boeing 787-8 named “Mous-Scoot-Ka” (inspired by the Greek dish Moussaka), to its fleet at Singapore Changi Airport in May. This addition symbolizes that Scoot is well-prepared for the next phase of its fleet expansion. In addition to the Singapore–Athens direct route launched last June, another long-haul destination will be announced in 2017.

Mr. Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Executive Officer of Scoot, said: “We are not only serving regional passengers. The 787 Dreamliner ‘Mous-Scoot-Ka’ joining our fleet this year will support more services between regions. The network of Scoot and Tigerair spans 59 cities across 16 countries, and we currently hold a strong market share in the Asia-Pacific region. Our extensive service offerings also lay a solid foundation for our connecting routes.”

Scoot expects to receive four 787-8 Dreamliners in 2017. Passengers favor the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for reasons including its extra-large, five-paneled LED windows, more comfortable cabin air, and highly eco-friendly fuel efficiency, all of which allow Scoot to effectively manage the rules of the game in low-cost operations. Each 787-8 Dreamliner can accommodate 329 passengers, including 18 in Scoot Business Class. In comparison, the 787-8 aircraft without crew bunks can carry 335 passengers and 21 in Scoot Business Class. However, each aircraft is equipped with six crew rest pods to ensure mandatory rest for the crew during long-haul flights.

The development of Scoot’s fleet is part of its long-term strategy. Following the integration of Scoot and Tigerair in May 2016, the two airlines have been working towards operating under a single brand—Scoot. This process is expected to be completed in the second half of 2017.
