Wat Rong Khun (White Temple) — an absolute must-visit sacred site you’ll regret missing!

Many people ask the prince when traveling to Chiang Rai, Thailand, what are the must-see attractions!? Well, I’d definitely say theWhite Temple! It’s also known as theDragon Power Temple! Why? Just take a look at the first few photos in the lead image and you’ll see why!

The famous Thai architect Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat said he would spend 99 years building this White Temple. Although it’s not yet fully completed, it has already earned the title of the second most beautiful temple in the world. White symbolizes purity, and the mirrored glass represents wisdom. The exterior of the White Temple only features these two colors.

Before entering heaven — you must first pass through hell (pictured above). Take a close look at the hands of the dead under the Nai Bridge. It’s really a bit scary — a reminder that once you walk onto this bridge, you can only go forward, not backward, because there’s no turning back.

The exterior of the White Temple is truly astonishing — the intricate carvings paired with hand-applied mirrored decorations create a truly breathtaking, almost otherworldly effect. This is a photo taken halfway back from the bridge (I didn’t walk back, by the way!)

Take a commemorative photo before reaching the main temple. Photography is not allowed inside the main building — so I can’t bring you firsthand images — but this temple is really exquisitely built. The murals inside the main temple even depict heroes from around the world, all of whom will eventually return to the presence of the Buddha. The White Temple attracts many tourists year-round for photos and pilgrimages. The prince even spotted the back view of a young couple — even when the weather wasn’t great, they still braved the rain together under a small umbrella for a photo — how SWEET is that!

Now let’s take a look at the back of the White Temple (pictured on the right above) — it looks quite different from the front. Even the corridors beside the White Temple have silver decorations hanging down — absolutely gorgeous!
