Top 10 Most Haunted Places in the World & Taiwan’s Demolished Sanzhi UFO Houses Also Make the List

Online media outlet Crave Online has selected the world's top 10 eerie yet intriguing destinations. These include Japan’s infamous suicide forest “Aokigahara,” the University of Tennessee’s Body Farm in the U.S., and Minnesota’s “Devil’s Kettle” waterfall. Also on the list is the Sanzhi UFO houses in New Taipei City’s Sanzhi District, Taiwan — although the structures were demolished back in 2008.

The Sanzhi UFO houses in New Taipei City have also been listed among the world’s top 10 most haunting spots. Crave Online noted that construction of the Sanzhi UFO houses began in the 1970s with plans to build a resort, but financial issues forced the project to be abandoned. Their unusual appearance led to the buildings being left to decay. Years of neglect, their bizarre look, and online rumors have often landed the Sanzhi UFO houses on lists of Taiwan’s top haunted houses. However, the Sanzhi UFO houses were demolished in 2008, so they’re no longer open to visitors from home or abroad.

Other selected locations include Japan’s famous suicide site “Aokigahara.” The site notes that Aokigahara is known as the “Suicide Forest,” where many people intending to end their lives camp around the forest’s edge before going inside to take their own lives. The University of Tennessee’s Body Farm features numerous corpses used for research purposes. Candidego Dois in Brazil is said to have made the list due to rumors that Nazi doctors increased experiments on Aryans there because of the area’s unusually high number of twins. Minnesota’s “Devil’s Kettle” waterfall looks normal at first glance, but no one has been able to determine where the water flowing into it actually goes.

Additionally, Mexico’s Island of the Dolls, where thousands of dolls hang from trees, also gives off an eerie vibe. It’s said that this was all the work of a man named Julian Santana Barrera, who found floating dolls near the body of a drowned girl and started hanging them from trees. He believed this would appease the spirit of the drowned girl.

Other spooky locations that made the list include Scotland’s Overtoun Bridge, Pripyat in Russia which was affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the Winchester Mystery House in Northern California, USA, and North Korea. Yes, North Korea is also included in Crave Online’s list of the world’s top 10 most haunting yet intriguing destinations. The site believes that unlike other countries, North Korea isn’t just eerie — its political system is what’s truly frightening.
