Carnival atmosphere turns into a terrifying zombie lineup — Japanese amusement park sends chills down your spine

Halloween is approaching, and Japan’s renowned amusement parks are deploying the largest-ever number of zombies, the frightening Sadako from “The Ring” and Ju-On, and the iconic bloody restaurant of masked killer Jason Voorhees. The daytime carnival cheer takes a sharp turn into a hauntingly spooky night full of ghosts — all to create an unforgettable experience for visitors.

While the world celebrates Western-style Halloween carnivals, Universal Studios Japan is kicking off its “Universal Surprise Halloween” event from September 13 to November 10. This year, the scare level has been amped up even further. In addition to retaining classics such as the “Bloody Restaurant of Masked Killer Jason” and the “Mummy Museum,” new terrifying elements have been added. Moreover, after 6 p.m. every evening, Universal Studios Japan instantly morphs into “Horror City,” where the largest-ever number of zombies roam the park — three times the usual amount, covering 90% of the area. There’s also a brand-new attraction titled “Cursed by Sadako’s Grudge,” which blends cinematic techniques and uniquely Japanese concepts of “curse” and “grudge” to create an inescapably creepy and hair-raising atmosphere.

In the Universal Wonderland area, the “Fantasy. Trick or Treat” event will also take place. Energetic children can shout the “Trick or Treat” phrase to receive dazzling candy costumes and special sweets as gifts, as well as participate in candy-catching games to immerse themselves in the mischievous spirit of Western Halloween. During the event period, there will be a “Carnival Parade” every day, presented based on the traditional festivities of Italy, the United States, and Brazil. This year also sees the addition of a Halloween-exclusive “Star Search Carnival,” where brand-new costume performances blend with the parade atmosphere, allowing visitors to feel the festive fervor of the carnival.
