Chiayi Heritage Week Kicks Off – Explore Zhuluo and Get Gifts

In conjunction with National Heritage Day, the Chiayi City Government is hosting a Heritage Week event from now until the 22nd. Visitors who tour any of the city’s 12 heritage sites and 6 historical buildings, and check in or collect a commemorative stamp at three of them, can receive a special gift. The event also includes free guided tours and lectures, and on the 21st, visitors can take a free ride on the Alishan Forest Railway train at the North Gate Station. Commemorative tickets will also be available after the event.

This year’s Heritage Week is themed “Smiling Chiayi, A Happy Stroll Through Heritage.” The city government said that Chiayi is not lacking in beauty, but rather in discovery. When visitors arrive in Chiayi by train and head east, they’ll find heritage sites and historical buildings such as Chenghuang Temple, Hongmao Well, and the Chiayi Post Office. Each site has its own unique backstory, worth exploring in detail.

The Chiayi City Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that during the event, visitors can check in or collect stamps at any three of the 18 heritage sites and historical buildings, including Renwu Temple, Chenghuang Temple, the Old Telecom Bureau, Hongmao Well, the Old Chiayi Prison, Hinoki Forest Village, and the Forestry School Staff Quarters, to exchange gifts at the Historical Materials Museum. The Chiayi Su-Zhou-Lian Ancestral Hall will also host an exhibition of old photographs and cultural relics, along with a performance by the Changyi Pavilion Puppet Troupe.
