No need to squeeze through the crowds at New Taipei Christmas Town—now Tamsui Customs Wharf also has a Sea of Lights Tunnel. Lighting up every evening from 5 PM until midnight, it will shine all the way until January 7th next year.

Tamsui Customs Wharf isn’t just great for sunset viewing—the nights now offer a hidden Sea of Lights. Vast swathes of peach-pink and teal LED lights intertwine to form an entire tunnel of glowing lights, creating a truly magical scene. This year’s event, themed “2017 Tamsui Customs Wharf Sea of Lights Festival,” combines Tamsui’s local cultural charm and history, featuring public art exhibitions, small-farmer creative markets, and artistic performances, reviving the glorious past of the old wharf.

In addition to the Sea of Lights, the “Fragments of Time – Fleeting Moments Between Mountain and Sea” exhibition is located on the second floor of the colonial building, featuring brand-new art installations created by renowned artists Wu Jicheng and Chuang Chihwei. Artist Chuang Chihwei’s work “Ocean Currents in the Forest” uses the outdoor space of the Customs Wharf to attempt to encircle the former glory of the past. The shimmering light symbolizes ocean currents, which, changing with day and night, create a dreamlike visual experience.

The New Taipei City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that during the event period, weekends will feature exciting performances such as flash mobs, musicals, and LIVE concerts, as well as a New Taipei City public art exhibition themed around “light.” In addition to the Customs Wharf, romantic lighting extends to the train head, Fort San Domingo, and the Dutch Trading House, along with captivating drama, dance, music, and market activities, making Tamsui stunning from day to night.
