If you’re tired of the first-tier cities like Osaka and Tokyo, Kyushu is one of the go-to destinations for seasoned travelers. For northern Kyushu, you can use Fukuoka as your base and explore nearby spots like Yufuin and Beppu Hot Springs. For southern Kyushu, take Kagoshima as your hub to visit the hometown of Toshiko, Sakurajima Volcano, Dragon Palace Shrine, and other historic sites. Of course, train enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the JR specialty trains that connect northern and southern Kyushu, which are also a major highlight of Kyushu travel.
