Tokyo Tower elevator glass shatters; Special Observation Deck closed urgently

On the afternoon of the 17th, the elevator connecting two observation decks at Tokyo Tower in Japan suddenly had its glass shatter. This unexpected incident resulted in a 6-year-old boy being cut, and Tokyo Tower subsequently closed the Special Observation Deck as an emergency measure, temporarily suspending its service.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on the 17th. An elevator carrying 12 passengers was descending from the 250-meter-high "Special Observation Deck" to the 150-meter-high "Main Observation Deck" when the glass on one side of the elevator suddenly shattered. The elevator then stopped at a height of approximately 207 meters above ground, trapping all 12 passengers for about two hours before they were rescued. Among the passengers, a 6-year-old boy was injured by the shattered glass and was subsequently sent to the hospital for emergency treatment.

According to passengers who were trapped in the elevator at the time, a small piece of what appeared to be iron flew in from the outside, causing the window to break. Other witnesses also reported seeing something resembling an iron plate falling from the sky and hitting the elevator glass. Tokyo Tower subsequently closed the Special Observation Deck and issued an apology statement on its official website, stating that the cause of the accident is still under investigation. For safety reasons, the Special Observation Deck has been temporarily closed, and the affected elevator has been taken out of service. However, the 150-meter-high "Main Observation Deck" remains in normal operation.
