Punching the Instagram shot at Central’s graffiti wall is all the rage right now — the hidden Hong Kong stories behind Graham Street murals

If you ask people who’ve been to Hong Kong, who hasn’t been to Central? You and I might not be too quick to raise our hands. But even if you’ve been to Central many times, does that really mean you know it well? Central is Hong Kong’s financial hub, home to the famous Landmark, the bar-filled Lan Kwai Fong, Michelin one-star roast goose, and the latest Ferris wheel. But what many don’t realize is that Central is also one of the starting points of Hong Kong’s history.

Xu Weini, director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s Taiwan office who has visited Hong Kong thousands of times, jokes: “I went to Hong Kong four times in April this year, three of which were to Central, but I gained a completely new perspective on the area this time.” The park located opposite the Man Mo Temple in Central sits next to a street called Possession Point — the very spot where British forces landed in 1841, raised their first flag, and took possession of Hong Kong.Read full article
