When mainland Chinese tourists choose accommodations in Taiwan, what matters most is “whether the hotel has good food.”

Aside from luxury tour groups, the most popular accommodation choice for tourists in Taipei is Ximending, followed by the Xinyi District, which is home to numerous high-end hotels. Hotels rated three or four stars and above are especially favored by mainland travelers. “In response to the increasing number of mainland tourists visiting Taiwan, hotels have started adjusting their facilities accordingly,” said Chuang. According to her, star-rated hotels have begun offering not only Western breakfasts, but also Chinese breakfast options, Chinese TV channels, and welcome brochures, among other services tailored to the habits of mainland visitors.

Regarding the consumption habits of mainland Chinese tourists in Taiwan, Chuang pointed out that mainland travelers often prefer to have lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurants, making restaurant reviews one of the key factors influencing their hotel choices. In terms of the room rates paid by mainland tourists for five-star hotels in major world cities, Taipei’s five-star hotels rank eighth, with an average price of 2,268 RMB, equivalent to 11,340 TWD.

At the same time, with the development of low-cost airlines, Asian travelers have gradually started to adjust how they plan their trips. Travelers who previously relied mostly on package tours organized by travel agencies are now also beginning to plan their travels through hotel booking websites. Chuang stated that with the Taiwanese government actively promoting tourism support measures, Taiwan’s tourism industry is expected to flourish in the future.
