Delicious Eats in Shuanglian Alleyways: Nagoya Daidokoro Serves Authentic Nagoya Cuisine

Before the opening hours, several customers were already waiting outside the door. Within half an hour of opening, the small shop was packed with patrons—all eager to taste authentic Nagoya cuisine. This is “Nagoya Daidokoro.”

Run by a young couple, the husband is a true Nagoya native. After getting married, they returned to Taipei and decided to bring the most authentic flavors of Nagoya to the city where the wife grew up. Winnie, the owner, mentioned that at the beginning, some customers found the flavors too strong. They debated whether to adjust the taste for Taiwanese preferences but ultimately chose to stay true to the original, allowing customers in Taiwan to enjoy the genuine taste of Nagoya.

Winnie said that Nagoya’s signature dish is none other than the “fried chicken wings.” The flavor of Nagoya’s fried chicken wings is so unique that it’s hard to find elsewhere in Japan. With a crispy outer layer, there’s no greasy aftertaste—just the spicy, savory, and tender chicken that bursts with flavor. No dipping sauce or pepper is needed, as the taste is already perfectly seasoned.

In this small eatery, nearly every group of diners orders another popular dish—handmade burger patties with fried egg.The owner explained that Nagoya cuisine often uses red miso, giving it a distinct local flavor. The juicy burger patties, topped with a semi-raw egg and drizzled with sauce, allow the rich taste of the meat to shine through without being overpowered by the sweet-and-sour sauce. The combination of burger and sauce is just right.

Winnie said the biggest difference between them and other izakayas is their limited menu—they don’t serve skewers or similar items. It's more akin to a “cafeteria.” While the atmosphere is izakaya-like, the focus is on miso-based dishes, making it quite different from typical izakaya offerings.
