Former landfill in Taipei transformed into eco-park; swimming pool and sauna to open in October

Major makeover for a landfill site ! The Shanzhuku Landfill in Nangang District, Taipei City, has been transformed by the Environmental Protection Bureau into the "Shanshuilv Eco-Park," a space that combines leisure and ecological conservation. The Environmental Protection Bureau stated that the revamped eco-park offers a variety of facilities for public use and includes a visitor center for inquiries. Highlights include the Rainbow Wooden Boardwalk and... (Text garbled) where visitors can enjoy night views of the city, the green paths, the starry sky, as well as vehicle lights from routes 4 and 5. The park also features a coffee cabin where visitors can sit, enjoy a cup of coffee, relax, and gaze at the stars.

Beyond recreational offerings, the EPA noted that the park has planted around 10 different tree species totaling 1,723 trees. In winter, visitors can admire cherry blossoms, while in summer they can enjoy the snowy white blooms of the tung flower trees. Due to extensive greening efforts, the park has attracted many bird species, including the Taiwan blue magpie, grey treepie, little egrets, cattle egrets, and even protected species such as the collared finchbill. The former sludge pond has also been transformed into a wetland ecological area.

The Shanzhuku Landfill is located at the southeastern corner of Nangang District and the border with Shenkeng District, covering an area of 35 hectares. It was put into use in 1994. Starting in 2003, the city government gradually converted most of the landfill area into a restoration park. With the completion of the eco-park project, it was officially renamed the Shanshuilv Eco-Park starting in 2011.
