Exclusive for travelers from Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea: Skip the lines to watch Taipei 101’s New Year’s Eve show

Thinking about celebrating New Year’s in Taiwan? Act fast. The Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism announced today (the 3rd) that it has partnered with China Airlines to launch a special “Taipei’s Most Exciting New Year City – 2014 Countdown Fireworks Limited Tour” package for overseas visitors. This includes two “skip-the-line” perks: watching the New Year’s Eve show rehearsal without waiting in line, and enjoying snacks at Ningxia Night Market without queuing. These features aim to boost tourist numbers to Taipei.

Taipei 101’s unique countdown fireworks display attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators every year and has been recommended by CNN as one of the “Top 10 Unique New Year’s Celebrations Around the World.” Sun Ting-lung, Director of the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism, said that Taipei offers a visitor-friendly environment and is a must-visit destination for independent travelers. By the end of this year, additional YouBike rental stations will be added, and the MRT Xinyi Line will also open, further improving convenience for tourists. For this event, the Department has specially designed and produced panda-themed luggage tags and travel brochures to give to participants of the limited tour.

The package offers two special “skip-the-line” features: watching the New Year’s Eve show rehearsal without waiting in line and enjoying snacks at Ningxia Night Market without queuing. These are unique travel products being offered for the first time. Yang Tzu-pao, spokesperson for China Airlines and deputy general manager of its Public Relations Office, stated that the “Taipei’s Most Exciting New Year City – 2014 Countdown Fireworks Limited Tour” was originally limited to 100 participants, but due to high demand, the Tourism Bureau has added another 1,000 spots.

As part of the itinerary, participants will first enjoy a “Millennium Banquet” of street food at Ningxia Night Market, then be guided to the New Year’s Eve show venue to watch the rehearsal. The package is targeted at travelers from Singapore, Malaysia, mainland China, and South Korea, with the three-day-two-night trip starting at approximately 2,700 RMB.
