A new place for young and educated railway fans to check in! Japan's first "MUJI Station" is in Osaka

MUJI’s minimalist style is beloved by travelers worldwide. Now, Japan’s first "MUJI Station" is coming to Osaka. Keihan Electric Railway announced that Keihan Hirakata Station will be renovated, with the new station designed by MUJI, set to open by the end of 2018.

About 90,000 passengers pass through Hirakata Station every day. You can take the Keihan Electric Railway directly from Osaka Yodoyabashi Station or Kyobashi Station. The number of passengers using this station is second only to the above two stations. Keihan Electric Railway announced that the new Hirakata Station will feature a strong Muji-style design, with a wooden, open-concept space as the station's design theme; a large Muji store will also be set up on the second floor of the connected Keihan Department Store, scheduled to open in May 2018.

The Muji-style station is Japan’s first of its kind. Kintetsu Railway further explained that the floor outside the ticket gates on the second floor of the station will feature a wood-grain base, and parts of the walls will be designed with large glass panels, creating an open and spacious feel. Upon completion and opening at the end of 2018, it is expected to become a new Osaka landmark for design enthusiasts and railway fans.
