The Taichung International Travel Fair grandly opened on the 4th, featuring participation from over 100 exhibitors and nearly 300 booths, making it the annual travel extravaganza of central Taiwan. The organizer, the Taichung City Travel Agents Association, stated that this year’s fair includes exhibits from multiple Japanese prefectural tourism bureaus, showcasing a Japan-themed area and autumn foliage tours. Thanks to the off-season, Southeast Asian travel packages are available for less than NT$10,000, allowing travelers to “hunt for treasures” at the fair.

This year, the organizers have brought together entities such as the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Taichung City Government, Miaoli County Government, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, Okinawa Tourism Bureau, Macau Government Tourism Office, and the Philippines Department of Tourism. In addition to foreign tourism offices coming to Taiwan to “attract visitors,” many Taiwanese resort hotels and five-star hotels are offering special deals, with accommodation and meal vouchers starting at up to 80% off.
Due to the depreciation of the yen, traveling to Japan this year is one of the hottest options. The Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association has invited the Okinawa Tourism Bureau, Hokkaido, Tohoku region, Kagoshima Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, Shiga Prefecture, Wakayama Prefecture, Mie Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, Kumamoto Prefecture, and Tottori Prefecture to exhibit in Taiwan, making for an unprecedentedly grand event.
