A black Labrador Retriever named "Obu" in Japan was once a stud dog used for breeding guide dogs at the Japan Guide Dog Association. After retiring in 2010, Obu was adopted by a family and has been living a happy life just like any other pet. This September, as the weather gradually turned autumnal, the owner took Obu to the national park “Tottori Sand Dunes” in Tottori City to enjoy the fun of playing in the sand.

Japan is surrounded by sea, so it’s hard to imagine there could be a landscape resembling a “desert.” However, the Tottori Sand Dunes in Tottori City feature such unique geography — with depressions as deep as 40 meters and dunes as high as 50 meters. Looking out over the expanse of sand, you can even see patterns left by the wind, known as “wind ripples.” In this September when the weather began to cool, the owner took Obu to visit the area, experiencing the joy of walking on the dunes, feeling almost as if they had arrived at the Sahara Desert in Africa, full of exotic charm.
