With just two weeks left until the end of 2017, have you figured out how to spend New Year’s Eve? To celebrate the end and beginning of the year in grand fashion, numerous countdown events across Taiwan are preparing spectacular fireworks displays to ring in the new year. ETtoday Travel Cloud has rounded up the top 5 must-see countdown fireworks shows for 2017-18—there’s still time to plan your perfect night out now!

1. Taipei — Taipei 101 Time: 360 seconds
Taipei 101 recently announced that this year’s countdown fireworks theme is “Happy Together,” and for the first time, it will feature a “TPAD” light mesh installed between the 35th and 90th floors of the building. This ultra-long light mesh, composed of nearly 140,000 LEDs, will be used in combination with the fireworks show. The display is scheduled to begin at 11:59 PM on December 31, 2017, and will last for 360 seconds. Many believe this will be the longest visual fireworks and light show in Taipei 101’s history.

In response to environmental concerns, the number of fireworks launched this year has been significantly reduced from around 30,000 to just 16,000. However, the addition of the LED-based TPAD light mesh will bring multimedia innovation to the visuals while supporting eco-friendly practices.

2. Nantou — Sun Moon Lake Countdown Fireworks Time: 8 minutes
After a five-year hiatus, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration has announced the return of its countdown fireworks show. The event will take place at two locations within the lake area: Shuishe and Ita Thao, featuring a dual-location fireworks display that is expected to last a total of 8 minutes.

After enjoying the fireworks, visitors can head to Golden Dragon Mountain a few hours later to catch the sunrise. The Sun Moon Lake Administration noted that due to limited space at the Golden Dragon Mountain venue, safety and event quality will be ensured through online registration and on-site traffic control. Registration is limited, and more details can be found on the official Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area website.

3. Yunlin — Janfusun Fancyworld Time: 11 minutes 11 seconds
This year marks the 11th anniversary of Janfusun Fancyworld’s countdown event, so the 2017-18 fireworks show is themed around the number “11.” The fireworks will last for 11 minutes and 11 seconds, with a total of 11,111 fireworks launched. Additionally, 11 newly designed Ferris wheel gondola fireworks will make their debut. On December 30, the park will also host a mini countdown event, featuring a 5-minute and 20-second “I Love You” fireworks show at 7 PM.

To tie in with the “11” theme, Janfusun Fancyworld is offering a special 1+1 promotion from December 30 to January 1, 2018. Visitors whose ID numbers and birthdays both contain the number “1” can enjoy discounted tickets for just NT$399.

4. Yunlin — Douliu City Countdown Party Time: 300 seconds
Douliu City will also hold a countdown party this year. Starting at 8 PM on December 31, the street in front of Sanhao International Hotel will be closed to traffic. The event will feature performances by local groups, fashion shows, and will conclude with a 300-second countdown fireworks display.

5. Kaohsiung — E-DA World Time: 999 seconds
E-DA World in Kaohsiung is introducing a double fireworks show this year to attract visitors for New Year’s Eve. First, at 11:16 PM on December 31, there will be a 36-minute “Fantasy Welcome Fireworks Show,” featuring a 500-meter 3D surround fireworks display. Then, at midnight, a 999-second countdown fireworks show will begin, divided into four acts with synchronized music, telling a story-like performance.

E-DA World also reminds visitors that the Ferris wheel will operate only until 9:30 PM on December 31 in coordination with the fireworks schedule.
