Iron Man Headquarters Lands at Hong Kong Disneyland – Mickey Mouse Faces a Tough Challenge!

Iron Man has landed in Hong Kong (known as “鐵甲奇俠” in Hong Kong and “Iron Man” in Mainland China)! Hong Kong Disneyland is investing heavily to build the world’s first “Iron Man Headquarters,” expected to be completed in 2016 — one year after the opening of Shanghai Disneyland in 2015. With Iron Man’s soaring popularity challenging the boyish charm of Mickey Mouse, it looks like our little Mickey will have to stay on his toes to keep his top spot.

The “Iron Man Headquarters” will be located within “Tomorrowland,” on a vacant lot between “Autopia” and “Main Street, U.S.A.” The exhibit will showcase armor suits from various versions of Iron Man, and actors dressed as the superhero will interact with park guests. Additionally, visitors can experience a spaceship ride and watch a 3D film featuring a “Hong Kong-style Iron Man,” joining him in defending Earth and protecting their homes. Iconic Hong Kong landmarks such as Victoria Harbour, the International Finance Centre, and Victoria Peak may also appear in the movie scenes.

Marvel Comics (Marvel Entertainment, formerly known as Marvel Comics) has a 74-year history and has created many American heroes such as the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Captain America, and Iron Man. Four years ago, Marvel was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. The upcoming “Iron Man Headquarters” is the first Marvel-themed superhero land built by Disney since the acquisition.

According to statistics from the Hong Kong Tourism Commission, over 2 million Taiwanese visit Hong Kong each year. With the added buzz around Iron Man, even more Taiwanese tourists may flock to Hong Kong Disneyland in the future. Park officials emphasize that ticket prices will offer great value, though they have not confirmed whether prices will rise. They are also discussing plans for the expansion of a third hotel in the park.
