Spectacular sight: Typhoon, snowfall, and autumn foliage — three seasons in Hokkaido at once

Taiwan has just entered autumn, but Hokkaido is already experiencing strong winds and snowfall this year’s Typhoon No. 26 “Wipha,” regarded by Japan as the “largest typhoon of the year,” brought a storm system that covered eastern Japan early this morning (the 16th), causing heavy rain across various regions. Although the typhoon mainly affected the Kanto region, Hokkaido was also brushed by the storm system. This morning, the rare phenomenon of autumn foliage, snowfall, and a typhoon all occurring simultaneously was witnessed.

As the typhoon enveloped Japan, northern and eastern parts of Hokkaido, including the central and eastern regions, were also hit by a cold air mass last night (the 15th). Snow began to fall in areas such as Kushiro, Obihiro, and Furano in Hokkaido. The beautiful autumn scenery, once vibrant with red leaves, was suddenly blanketed by snow, accompanied by chilly winds and temperatures dropping below 5°C. Red leaves could still be faintly seen peeping through the branches amid the heavy snow, creating a uniquely stunning scene. After locals posted photos of this spectacle online, it amazed netizens in Taiwan: “Snow and autumn leaves in one trip? That sounds incredibly romantic!”
