Yayoi Kusama’s “Dot” Installation Art Makes Its Splashy Debut

The 2013 Taoyuan Land Art Festival will kick off on October 26. In addition to the Yellow Duck, the event will feature large-scale installations such as Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s “The Footprints of Life” and Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa’s “Giant Lotus.” Yesterday, Kusama’s “The Footprints of Life” arrived in Taoyuan, where staff used boats to place 15 ladybug-shaped artworks on the pond.<<看更多草间弥生的点点艺术>>

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has been hailed by British media as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Her “dot art” enjoys international acclaim and a large fan base. The installation being exhibited in Taiwan this time is called “The Footprints of Life,” featuring 15 brightly colored, ladybug-like pieces that will float on the pond.

The land art festival features five major thematic zones: the Yellow Duck, Dot Art, Lotus, Fanjiang Old Houses, and Water Alley Exhibition Area. Among them, the dot art brought by Japanese contemporary visual art master Yayoi Kusama offers an abstract postmodern feel, usually only seen at major international exhibitions. Meanwhile, the two giant lotuses created by Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa are also must-see works for visitors.
