Taipei International Travel Fair / UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage "Mak Yong Dance" Stuns the Venue

The 2013 Taipei International Travel Fair is still ongoing, featuring participants from 60 countries. As 2014 marks Malaysia’s once-every-seven-years Tourism Year, the Malaysian Tourism Board invited performers of the "Mak Yong Dance," recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, to perform at the fair, actively promoting traditional cultural highlights to Taiwanese travelers.

The Traditional and Cultural Arts Dance Troupe of Kelantan State, Malaysia (Malaysian Mak Yong Dance Troupe Kumpulan Mak Yong Kijang Emas), was officially established in 2006 and is the only cultural dance group in Malaysia that fully preserves the Mak Yong dance of Kelantan. The Mak Yong dance of Kelantan is considered the most representative national performance art in Malaysia, blending narration, dance, and music. It was recognized by UNESCO on November 15, 2005, as an "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity."
