Taipei’s “Meat-Egg Dry Noodles” are loaded with cabbage and come with budget-friendly fried pork chops

Shunlin Homestyle Noodles is located near the intersection of Hejiang Street and Changchun Road.

Just look at this signboard—you can tell it’s been around for ages.

Before coming here, I did some research and found out their most famous dishes are the meat-egg dry noodles and fried pork chops, so of course I had to order them, plus a bowl of beef soup.

Small meat-egg dry noodles (NT$55), fried pork chops (NT$40), and small beef soup (NT$85)—yet another hearty meal.

Although it’s a small portion of meat-egg dry noodles, there’s actually quite a lot, and it’s packed with cabbage. Just looking at it feels like a great deal.

The noodles look thick and chewy, and they taste pretty good too.

There’s also plenty of broth underneath, giving it a semi-soup-noodle feel. The soup is actually quite smooth and not too salty, pairing well with the cabbage, shredded pork, and egg—it’s a rather refreshing combination.

The fried pork chops are coated in a very thin layer of batter.

But if you look at the cross-section, the pork chops show signs of being fried—they’re probably cut and fried again, which gives them a nice bounce. They’re not super juicy, but they’re still pretty tasty fried pork chops, and at NT$40 per piece, they’re really affordable.

The small beef soup (NT$85) comes with a generous amount of beef. The soup has a traditional braised flavor, which is fairly standard, though slightly on the salty side. The beef chunks are fairly large, and the texture is okay.

K’s Little Tips:Their meat-egg noodles are really unique and super filling—a small portion is definitely enough for a woman, while a man might want to go for a medium. The fried pork chops are also quite good. I heard their zhajiangmian (noodles with soybean paste) are good too, so if you’re a fan of noodles, you should definitely give this place a try.
