The Miaoli Ginger Festival kicks off for 2 days: Horse-drawn carriage weddings and Hakka ginger celebrations

The Miaoli Ginger Festival will take place this weekend on November 2 and 3. This year’s theme is “The Crimson Horse Meets the God of Wealth,” featuring a highly traditional Hakka-style horse-drawn carriage wedding and ginger-themed delicacies. Additionally, the event will offer Hakka pickled vegetables, ginger tea, and other local treats, along with a variety of engaging activities.

Each year, the Ginger Festival creates a display of ginger stacked into the zodiac animal for the coming year. As next year is the Year of the Horse, this year’s theme is “The Crimson Horse Meets the God of Wealth.” On the day of the event, 1,000 limited-edition “Happiness 99” lucky bags will be sold for just NT$99 each. These include ginger products, meal vouchers, accommodation discounts, and fruit-picking coupons, with a total value guaranteed to exceed NT$899.

Liu Tien-chun, chairman of the Miaoli County Ginger Garden Development Association, announced that three couples and one local diamond anniversary pair will ride in horse-drawn carriages and Hakka-style palanquins respectively to celebrate a culturally rich Hakka-style ginger wedding.

Over the two-day event, Miaoli County Government has arranged free shuttle buses between Dahu and the Ginger Garden from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
