The 102nd Taitung Sailfish Festival and Navel Orange Festival event—“Sail & Citrus 'Journey Begins'” will officially kick off on November 16 for a nine-day celebration. This year, the Taitung County Government is marketing two major local agricultural and fishery industries—the “sailfish” and “navel oranges”—together for the first time, and has combined them with scenic spots in Chenggong Town to launch a series of themed activity routes. The aim is to attract both domestic and international travelers during the autumn and winter seasons when sailfish are at their fattest and navel oranges at their sweetest;Meanwhile, the Bixiliyan Tribe in the much-talked-about Baishoulian Fishing Village within the town is also home to characters from Jimmy Liao’s illustrations. The activities and tribal revivals have made all of Chenggong Town lively and beautiful.

The Sailfish Festival, organized by the Taitung Xingang Fishing Association, will be held from November 16 to 17 at the Chenggong Town Seaside Park. The event features an ocean music concert, a carnival street parade, sailfish auctions, and harpoon fishing king competitions. More notably,if you dine at a “Sailfish Specialty Restaurant” certified by the Taitung County Government during the event period, premium sailfish meals originally priced at NT$3,500 per table can be enjoyed for just NT$2,500 to NT$3,000.Additionally, the Sanxiantai Navel Orange Festival, hosted by the Chenggong Town Farmers’ Association on November 23, will take place in front of the association’s supermarket. There will be sweet and sour navel orange tastings, as well as various performances and competitions.

From November 16 to 24, in conjunction with the events, the Taitung County Government has arranged five themed travel experiences: offshore harpoon sailfish fishing, Citrus City Park exploration, Baishoulian Fishing Village visits, self-guided cycling tours around Chenggong, and a land treasure hunt. These allow visitors to deeply experience the unique cultural charm of Chenggong Town in Taitung.

Taitung County Magistrate Huang Jian-ting said: “Sailfish and navel oranges are important agricultural and fishery products in Taitung, especially in Chenggong Town. That’s why we’ve integrated the two for the first time this year, making the event richer and longer in duration.” In addition, Huang mentioned that November is also when Taitung hosts international surfing competitions and the Prolong Road Running event. During this time, Taitung offers a “resonance of mountains and sea” that’s perfect for travel, and visitors can choose their favorite way to connect with the area.
