Taiwanese Couple Robbed While Sightseeing in Malaysia — Remote Location Not Commonly Visited by Tour Groups

According to Malaysian media outlet Sin Chew Daily on the 15th, a Taiwanese couple was robbed in Malaysia on the same day. Taiwanese travel agencies have received the information and are currently assisting in the investigation. Lai Ping-jung, head of the Business Division at the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation, stated that the couple, surnamed Hsu, were robbed on Bum Bum Island, which is located on the periphery of Malaysia, very close to the Philippines, and is not an area usually visited by typical tour groups.

The Tourism Bureau has activated the travel industry reporting channels. Currently, there is no information indicating that the robbed tourists were part of a tour group, so it is suspected they may be independent travelers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Tourism Bureau, and the Travel Agent Association are all conducting in-depth investigations. Next steps will include contacting various travel agencies for confirmation and locating whether the couple has any acquaintances or relatives in the area.
