Weihai in Shandong, China, is now closer to Taiwan！ To let people experience Weihai’s unique sea sunrise, China Airlines will launch direct cross-strait flights between Taoyuan and Weihai on December 31. The inaugural service is scheduled for one flight per week, with plans to increase to two flights per week starting in March next year. Direct flights will save a lot of time that would otherwise be wasted on transfers—the outbound journey takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes, while the return trip is just 2 hours and 25 minutes.

Weihai, surrounded by sea on three sides, is highly attractive in terms of both geography and culture. This includes its winding coastline, the majestic Weihai Port, and the Museum of the First Sino-Japanese War. What's more special is that it is the first place in China where you can see the sea sunrise. Taiwan has always been considered an important source of tourists for Weihai, which attracted over 20,000 Taiwanese visitors in 2012.

Weihai is the first place in China to witness the sea sunrise. China Airlines specifically scheduled the inaugural Taoyuan–Weihai flight on the last day of 2013, inviting people to go to Weihai to see the uniquely beautiful sunrise. Additionally, Weihai shares a deep connection with Taiwan. In gratitude for China’s gift of the giant pandas Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, Taiwan later gifted sika deer, which now reside in Weihai’s Liugong Island National Forest Park.
