Visit Shilin Official Residence to see “plump” large chrysanthemum displays and admire the yellow rubber duck

Taipei’s annual flowerbed extravaganza — the Shilin Official Residence Chrysanthemum Exhibition — kicked off on the 17th. This year, the most eye-catching large chrysanthemum has grown even “plumper,” setting a new record of 1,668 blooms, surpassing last year’s 1,510. Meanwhile, the yellow rubber duck made up of 2,600 bright yellow chrysanthemums also draws many visitors for photos.

The “Unparalleled Chrysanthemum World” exhibition at Shilin Official Residence has once again set a new record for the number of large chrysanthemum blooms. The city government noted that large chrysanthemums are created by arranging thousands of chrysanthemums of identical shape and size neatly on a single plant. Due to the large number of blooms and the long diameter of each layer of the frame, cultivation takes one to two years. The city’s Parks Department stated that in addition to the large chrysanthemums, the yellow rubber duck and rainbow chrysanthemums are also key highlights of this exhibition.

This year’s chrysanthemum exhibition runs until December 1st and is free to the public. The exhibition features nine major outdoor display areas and three indoor exhibition halls. Outdoor exhibits include “Home of the Large Chrysanthemum,” “Dream Garden,” and “Formosa Landscape.” Indoor exhibition halls showcase the yellow rubber duck made from 2,600 fresh chrysanthemums, as well as vibrant rainbow chrysanthemums cultivated through a five-step dyeing process.

The Parks Department stated that during the exhibition period, gardening lectures and activities are held every weekend. Residents can download the app from the official website, scan the “hidden” QR codes at the exhibition site, and collect rewards after completing three scans to receive lovely small gifts. The public is welcome to come enjoy the flowers and get great deals. The Taipei City Tourism and Communications Bureau has also set up a mobile travel service station at the exhibition site to provide travel information and consultation services for both domestic and international visitors.
