Honoring "a giant who influenced the world" — Steve Jobs' childhood home listed as U.S. historical site

Clad in his iconic black turtleneck, faded jeans, and sneakers, when Jobs appeared in this “uniform” at Apple product launches, the world held its breath, wondering what new transformation he would bring. Today, we can only reminisce about his immortal life through preserved videos and biographies. This giant committed to changing the world, the spiritual leader of Apple — Steven Jobs — has had his childhood home, the birthplace of Apple, designated as a protected historical site due to his accomplishments and contributions.

Located at 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, California, USA, this unassuming white single-story house with 1950s-style architecture was the birthplace of the first Apple computer. In late October 2013, during a meeting of the Los Altos Historical Commission, the building was unanimously granted special status and designated as a city historical site.

The Los Altos city government stated that the reason for its historical designation is not its age or architectural design, but rather its representation of an individual’s irreplaceable and outstanding contributions and groundbreaking achievements in history. Before becoming a historical landmark, the house was used as a filming location for the movie *Jobs*, which aimed to authentically depict his early years. It is now a local historical landmark and may eventually be included in the list of protected sites by the California state government, although it is not yet officially open for fans to tour inside.

The house is currently owned by Jobs’ sister, Patricia Jobs, but only his adoptive mother resides there. Being designated as a historical heritage means any future changes made by Jobs’ family will require government approval and evaluation. Once officially open to the public, “Apple fans” will have the opportunity to visit the origin of Apple at Jobs’ childhood home, in addition to paying homage at Apple headquarters.
