No matter where you are in Taiwan, besides the constant flow of cars and motorcycles on the streets, there are also non-stop, year-round operating highway buses transporting passengers across the island. From narrow country lanes to wide highways, connecting both big cities and small towns, the scenic views imprinted along the way often inspire travelers with a strong desire to visit. Starting November 22, the Directorate General of Highways will hold an online vote for the "Top 10 Scenic Bus Routes," inviting the public to choose their most memorable journeys.

"Buses are more than just a means of transport. Perhaps you've never noticed, but besides carrying passengers, they also store countless moments of life and carry many touching stories..." The promotional text for the Top 10 Scenic Bus Routes Vote captures these often-overlooked emotions and tales in just a few words. To uncover the beauty of people, places, and experiences unique to bus travel, the Directorate General of Highways has partnered with the Republic of China Bus Transport Commercial Association. They have narrowed down thousands of bus routes across Taiwan and, after initial evaluations, selected 18 standout routes. Online voting is open from November 22 to December 21.

The 18 routes span from south to north, and from west to east, each with its own unique theme, covering diverse topics such as family travel, hot spring tours, natural landscapes, backpacking adventures, and popular tourist attractions. To boost their chances of winning, bus companies have added various promotions and perks to their nominated routes to attract votes. However, it’s important to note that these benefits will only be available if the route is selected as one of the "Top 10 Scenic Bus Routes."

For example, Taipei Bus’s nominated route, the “Pingxi Intellectual Tour,” offers a one-day pass for unlimited rides to Shenkeng, Jing Tong, Pingxi, and Shiding at a discounted price of NT$70 (original price NT$165). Meanwhile, Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport’s “Toucheng Old Street Delicious Feast” route provides a direct ride from Yuanshan Transfer Station to Toucheng. With a Kuo-Kuang ticket stub, passengers can ride buses 1740 and 1811 to Dongsen Marine Hot Spring Hotel for free, and use the stub to enjoy a Golden Spring SPA. Additionally, they can purchase a Yilan One-Day Pass for NT$80, which allows unlimited rides between Toucheng and Nanfangao.
