The ceiling of Sydney's Wynyard Station features "escalators" — not just decor, but a memory!

What does it feel like when you're on an escalator and look up to see another one above your head!? Sydney Station has recently unveiled a very unique installation, with some even saying it makes them feel like they're in the world of Harry Potter. This structure, made up of 20 escalators, is currently on display at Wynyard Station and is called Interloop.

According to Lonely Planet,this artwork was created by Australian contemporary artist and sculptor Chris Fox. It hangs from the ceiling of the station concourse between York Street and Wynyard Station, featuring four escalators with 244 intertwined steps, stretching approximately 50 meters in total.The piece took around six months to design and construct, and is suspended from steel beams. Its current structure resembles the bellows of an accordion.

Passersby might simply find its shape unusual, but for locals, it may stir some emotions, as it represents the wooden escalators that were used in the station before its renovation — a former landmark. These wooden escalators had been in use for over 80 years, and now, transformed into a sculpture, they offer a chance for people to admire them. Though retired, their history and appearance will be remembered by all.
