The 2013 Tainan Food Festival officially kicked off on November 16 and will run for a month. With events such as Happy Food “Red” and “Green,” a Food Stamp Marathon, the Taste of Tainan Photo Contest, and Happy Food Moments Culinary Lectures, participants can win a variety of prizes with a total bonus of NT$55,000.

Tainan is the origin of Taiwanese history and preserves nearly four hundred years of local culture and diverse culinary influences, which have created the uniqueness of Tainan’s street food. The 2013 Tainan Food Festival has specially invited 319 local “food and dessert,” “drink and dessert” and “souvenir” shops to join in the celebration, allowing locals to relive the flavors of memorable Tainan street snacks.

This Saturday (1st) from 14:00 to 15:30, at the International Conference Hall on the 3rd floor of the National Life Aesthetics Museum, Liang Youxiang will discuss “Happy Tainan. Good Cooking Ideas,” where the public can learn about Tainan’s food culture. The Happy Food “Red” and “Green” stamp lottery allows participants who collect six stamps a chance to win the first prize: a full carbon-fiber bicycle worth about NT$60,000, plus other prizes totaling NT$200,000. To make it easier for the public to submit their stamp cards this year, lottery boxes are placed in 170 FamilyMart convenience stores across Tainan City. Free scratch cards (20,000 in total) are also available from store staff — those who win will receive a free drink from FamilyMart, with 1,000 cups given out for tasting.

In the “Food Stamp Marathon,” participants use a marathon foldout map to visit listed food shops and collect stamps. The first person to complete all stamps wins NT$10,000, with a total prize pool of NT$30,000. For the “Taste of Tainan. Tainan Food Essay Competition,” the organizers are also calling on food lovers to share their experiences through writing. The first prize is NT$8,000, with a total prize pool of NT$20,500. The top 10 winners will also receive a special gift — “A Bowl of Fucheng” — from the Tourism Bureau.
