When choosing a great restaurant, besides delicious food, the dining atmosphere is also a key reason that attracts customers. Located on Chang’an West Road in Taipei’s northern district, “Mushroom Forest Pasta” sounds like something straight out of a fairy tale, but don’t think it’s only designed to please female customers—the generous portions are more than enough to satisfy the guys too.

A cute mascot named “Yummy” greets guests at the entrance of Mushroom Forest. The owner, designer Ye Shengliang, decided from the start to turn the entire shop into a “fairy-tale story.” Ye Shengliang said, “Yummy is a little forest sprite, and she’s also a little chef who loves cooking. To improve her culinary skills, she goes on adventures all over the forest, searching for the right ingredients and meeting many people and things along the way...” Not only does the in-store ambiance, food, tableware, and music all tie into the brand image centered around “Yummy,” but dining here feels like falling into Yummy’s fairy-tale world.

Ye Shengliang said that when couples go out for a meal, it’s usually the woman who decides on the restaurant, but cute-style eateries often serve “refined” dishes that leave the guys still hungry. He said, “My strategy is to make sure the guys get full too. When both sides are satisfied with us, they’ll come back next time.” Therefore, Ye Shengliang and the chefs specially designed the pasta dishes not just as regular pasta, but as a concept of “double enjoyment” with two main courses.

The signature dish “Venetian Tomato Sauce Squid Ink Pasta” features an entire squid marinated for a day with nearly ten spices including lemon and thyme leaves. The pasta uses black noodles, then stir-fried with tomato sauce and three types of wild mushrooms. Unlike typical squid ink sauces that tend to be fishy, this version avoids that and doesn’t leave your mouth black afterward. The squid is pan-seared and roasted fresh, offering a sweet, tender texture.

“Creamy Bacon Pasta with Juicy Grilled Burger Patty” insists on using a 7:3 ratio of beef to pork. Because pork has more fat, the texture is juicier and less dry compared to all-beef versions, delivering rich meatiness and plenty of juices. The cream isn’t pure butter, but a blend of fresh cream and milk, offering the richness of cream without being too heavy.

“Pesto Chicken Pasta with Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Cutlet” features chicken breast cutlets coated in breadcrumbs, paired with a unique sauce and topped with cheesy q[V grilled goodness. The pesto uses butter sauce mixed with basil, resulting in a vibrant green color and a refreshing, non-greasy taste. The “Mexican Chicken Patty” has a crispy corn tortilla exterior, tasting like pizza, while the filling includes smoked chicken, cheese, onion, bell peppers, and red bean paste, offering a rich texture and surprisingly delightful flavors.
