Frequent Damage Reported: Taichung Teddy Bear Event Organizers Urge Public to Show Good Citizenship

The 2013 Taichung Happy Life Teddy Bear Carnival kicked off on November 28, but within just five days of the exhibition, there were several reports of teddy bears being damaged, which deeply upset the organizers. However, in order to allow the public to appreciate these artworks up close, the displays were not enclosed with barriers. On the evening of the 3rd, a press statement was released, urging visitors to show the best possible civic behavior when viewing the teddy bear exhibits—refrain from hitting or moving them, so that everyone can enjoy the exhibition in its entirety.

The official statement from the organizers of the 2013 Taichung Happy Life Teddy Bear Carnival is as follows:

The 2013 Taichung Happy Life Teddy Bear Carnival is the first event in Asia to feature an outdoor, free exhibition of one hundred 173-centimeter-tall teddy bears. To enable the public to view these creations up close, the displays were not enclosed with barriers, but instead marked at the base with “Art Exhibition Piece – Please Do Not Touch.”

In the five days since the event began, several teddy bear exhibits have been damaged, with some suffering serious harm. The organizers stated that if the teddy bears continue to be severely damaged, they will have to temporarily remove the affected pieces to the workshop for repairs in order to maintain the quality of the exhibition.

If multiple exhibits need to be sent back for repairs, it will be a great loss for many visitors who have yet to see the event. The organizers hope that the public will display the highest standards of citizenship when viewing the teddy bear displays—do not stand on the bases to take photos, and certainly do not hit or move the exhibits, so that every visitor can enjoy the most perfect exhibition experience.
