Taiwan Railways Launches New Menu: Q-Version Taroko Train Sells East Coast Specialty Lunchboxes

Taiwan Railways has a new lunchbox offering on the menu again. Starting December 5, the railway will begin selling East Coast specialty lunchboxes at Hualien Station. These feature a double main course of indigenous-style salted pork and flying fish fillets—local seafood from the East Coast—along with fresh seasonal vegetables such as roselle and dragon beard vegetable, which are locally abundant. Taiwan Railways will also deploy an adorable Q-version Taroko train dining car at Hualien Station to sell the new meal options.

According to Taiwan Railways, the new East Coast “Vegetable” specialty lunchbox will go on sale at 10:30 a.m. on the morning of December 5 in the waiting area of Hualien Station. On weekdays, lunch is available from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and dinner from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Only 100 portions are available each day, and the lunchbox is exclusive to Hualien Station.

In addition to the double main courses of salted pork and flying fish fillets, the new lunchbox also includes a variety of other items such as purple sweet potato from Xiulin and Xincheng townships, golden clam balls from Shoufeng Township, and seasonal vegetables like roselle, dragon beard vegetable, or mountain spinach (wild greens) from the East Coast region, as well as the signature braised tofu from the Hualien branch of the Taiwan Railways Catering Service Department. Visitors to Hualien can not only enjoy the beautiful mountain and water scenery but also savor the flavors of local ingredients.
