Taiwan Railways’ Land Cruise  Takes You to Revisit the Scenic Beauty of “Taiwan’s Most Beautiful Small Station”

Take a land cruise for a short spring trip! Taiwan Railways has announced its spring cruise-style train routes for 2014 (103 in the ROC calendar), with the highlight being a visit to the once-operational Taitung’s Douliu Station—renowned as “Taiwan’s most beautiful small station”—which has since been closed. Additionally, the newly added off-the-beaten-path Fangshan Station will offer travelers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding mountain landscapes.

The spring cruise-style train routes by Taiwan Railways will run from January to March next year. This year, besides adding new attractions such as Fangshan Station, Buluowan, and Shakadang Trail, the service will also take passengers back to revisit Taitung’s Douliu Station. Taiwan Railways stated that on January 18th, during the “Southbound Charm & Orchid Valley Blossoms – Enriching 2-Day Trip,” the train will depart from Taichung heading south, and when it reaches Taitung, it will slow down intentionally so passengers can fully appreciate the beauty of the small Douliu Station.

The three-month cruise-style train spring itinerary features 13 different routes. In January, options include “Coastal Route – Lanyang Forestry & Jiaoxi Hot Springs Day Trip” and “Southbound Charm & Fangliao Fishing Port Day Trip.” February’s highlights include “Wandering Through Taroko, Butterfly Valley Hot Springs & Steam Train Forest Adventure 2-Day Trip” and “Spring Tour of Zhushan & Chengcheng Scenery.” March will introduce the “South Cross Quietude – Lumingspring Warm Springs 2-Day Trip.”

Taiwan Railways has currently opened bookings for three of the spring routes, and starting December 17th, reservations will be available for the “Southbound Charm & Orchid Valley Blossoms” itinerary.
