New Director of Northeast Coast National Scenic Area Administration: The Ocean Is Part of Life

Fang Zhengguang, the new director of the Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, assumed office on December 9. In an interview withETtoday ETToday Dongsen News Cloud, Fang stated, “The ocean is part of the lives of Taiwanese people.” Taiwan is an island nation, and people’s lives are inherently tied to the sea. Therefore, aside from government education and outreach, he also encourages the public to develop proper and safe concepts around water activities. Only by fostering good attitudes can people understand the ocean, get closer to it, and live in harmony with it.

Fang Zhengguang has previously served as the head of the Planning Division at the Tourism Bureau and also worked at the Alishan National Scenic Area Administration. “The area I oversee has shifted from mountains to the sea,” Fang pointed out. Although the Northeast Coast is colder in winter, the climate remains cool enough to attract Western tourists. Therefore, efforts will be made to actively promote foreign tourism during the off-season in winter, aiming for balanced peak and off-peak seasons and ensuring that international visitors do not crowd out domestic travelers.

Additionally, focus will be placed on the development of barrier-free routes, scenic area safety measures, environmental education, and cycling tourism, striving to establish positive interactions between attractions and visitors and jointly moving toward the goal of 10 million annual visitors.
