As 2013 fades and 2014 begins, Tainan City has launched the “2014 Tainan FUN Happiness” New Year’s Eve trilogy to welcome the new year. After bidding farewell to the sunset at the Beimen Salt Fields and joining the countdown in front of Tainan High-Speed Rail Station, the trilogy’s grand finale — “Er Liao Welcoming the Sunrise” — will feature the first rays of the new year emerging from a sea of clouds, accompanied by the majestic sounds of a symphony orchestra and vocalists.

ToWatching the sea of clouds and sunrise at Er Liao has become a new rising tourism spot in Zuozhen, Tainan, rivaling the sunrise beauty of Alishan.. Held for the first time this year and organized by the Siraya National Scenic Area, the “Er Liao Welcoming the Sunrise” event at the Er Liao Sunset-Watching Pavilion has attracted numerous netizens expressing their intention to attend. However, due to the narrow roads and limited space around the pavilion, Siyaya National Scenic Area Administration Director Liao Yuan-long stated that a road clearance control covering approximately 25 kilometers in total will be implemented, along with a total visitor cap, to ensure the smooth running of the event.

Liao Yuan-long said that from 0:00 on January 1 next year until 10:00 a.m., the entire South Route 162 will be closed starting from 7:00 p.m. on the evening of December 31 until 10:00 a.m. on January 1 next year; the section between the intersection of South Routes 175 and 168 to the intersection of South Route 171 will prohibit any vehicle entry. Visitors must park their vehicles at the north parking lot of Hutoupi Reservoir and the opposite National Army Hutju Barracks, then take a shuttle bus to the site.

The walking distance from the Gengliao Police Station, where the shuttle bus drops off passengers, to the Er Liao Sunset-Watching Pavilion is about 2 kilometers and takes 30 to 40 minutes. This year, the sunrise at Er Liao is expected to appear at around 6:40 a.m. Participants are advised to plan their time in advance. Additionally, visitors should note that,due to limited capacity around the viewing pavilion, only 4,000 people will be allowed to enter the “Sunrise Zone” for the sunrise-watching event.No further entry will be permitted once the capacity limit is reached.
