The free bus ride campaign using the “Easycard” in Kaohsiung, which started in November, has had its discount period extended Up！ Starting January 2014, Kaohsiung’s city buses will be taken over by KGT Bus Company, marking the official privatization of the bus services. The originally scheduled end-of-year free city bus ride promotion has been announced to continue until the end of February 2014.

Passengers can ride for free to 11 city districts including Lingya District, Xiaogang District, and Qijin, covering popular Kaohsiung attractions such as 85 Sky Tower, Love River, Sizihwan Bay, Kaixuan Night Market, and Liuhe Night Market. This gives many tourists visiting Kaohsiung another option — “free buses” — besides the MRT.

The “Easycard” is a multi-purpose payment card in Kaohsiung, usable for buses, MRT, ferries, and more. It’s similar to Taipei’s EasyCard, but unlike the EasyCard, the Easycard does not have a “negative balance” function. For example, if a ride costs 30 NTD and your card only has 29 NTD, you’ll need to top it up before boarding.
