The American donut craze hits Taiwan — Krispy Kreme’s original glazed is irresistibly crispy and sweet

The king of American donuts, Krispy Kreme — sweet, fragrant, and crispy — reminds me of my gluttonous student days. That irresistible sweet crunch was the perfect winter companion.

Since mid-year, there have been constant rumors about Krispy Kreme entering the Taiwanese market. To be honest, I’m not much of a dessert person, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve even grown wary of sweets. But there’s always been something about Krispy Kreme that I can’t quite let go of — it’s just that I couldn’t get it in Taiwan.

So that uniquely student-era sweet taste could only linger in my mind, gradually fading away. Of course, in recent years, Taiwan has seen many Japanese-style donuts pop up, but their chewy texture just doesn’t hit the spot for this American bear. So while I’d buy them before, it was mostly for my mom or my brother.

And today, right before our honeymoon, I unexpectedly got two boxes of Krispy Kreme — what a huge post-wedding surprise!!


Hmm!! A very American-style, generous combo (it also looks a lot like a takeout pizza box).


Krispy Kreme is confirmed to officially launch at Xinyi Vivocity on December 12th!!


The current flavors seem a bit fewer than in the U.S. (though I’ve kind of forgotten), but my personal favorite is still the original Original Glazed — it’s truly sweet and delicious!!!


In terms of price, it’s not exactly cheap (but should still be within an acceptable range…). The original flavor is NT$30 each (not very big), other flavors are NT$40 each. I’ll try them out once they’re officially on sale.

Of course, there are drinks too.


First, let’s take a picture of the box edges — the sealed parts all have labels saying you should eat them within 24 hours (though they’re actually crispier when fresh!!)


Unboxing time!!! Each box contains 12 donuts, and those shiny original glazed ones are simply dazzling!!

The glaze isn’t just shiny — the aroma is very noticeable too.


Using my kitty paw as a scale, generally speaking, girls could probably eat three in one go, and I could polish off half a box at once. According to a friend, microwaving them for five seconds in winter makes them even better!! (Definitely a donut lover)


Alright, there’s really not much else to photograph, but I couldn’t help snapping a few more shots (such a nostalgic flavor…)

One big bite — honestly, I didn’t even care how pretty the bite looked. The texture of Krispy Kreme is completely different from Japanese donuts. It’s sweeter but also super crispy, and you barely notice any doughy mushiness. It’s more like the soft-crisp texture of macarons.

I suggest that dessert lovers pair it with strong tea or black coffee. Once the official store opens, the bear and I will go through all the flavors in one go and share our thoughts with everyone!!
