Three-phase traffic control near Taipei City Hall for New Year's Eve; public transport urged

As New Year's Eve approaches, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to gather at Taipei City Hall Plaza. The Taipei City Police Department announced that three-phase traffic control will begin around Taipei City Hall from 7:00 p.m. on December 31, with expanded controls starting at 10:00 p.m.

The Taipei City Government’s “2014 New Year’s Eve Gala” will take place starting at 6:00 p.m. on December 31. The Taipei City Traffic Police Division stated that due to stage setup, road controls will be in place along City Hall Road, Xin Ren’ai Road, Songshou Road, and Songgao Road sections until 6:00 a.m. on January 2 of the following year, with full closure of the area.

The roads around the “2014 New Year’s Eve Gala” will be under three-phase traffic control. The first phase begins at 7:00 p.m. on December 31, controlling surrounding roads from Section 5 of Xinyi Road connecting to Songren Road, then turning onto Section 5 of Zhongxiao East Road and Section 1 of Keelung Road. The second phase starts at 8:00 p.m. on December 31, expanding controls beyond the above areas to include Section 4 of Zhongxiao East Road connecting to Guangfu South Road, turning onto Ren’ai Road, then Section 1 of Keelung Road to Section 5 of Xinyi Road. The third phase involves full expansion of traffic control around Taipei City Hall, including Section 4 and 5 of Zhongxiao East Road turning onto Guangfu South Road, then Section 5 of Xinyi Road turning onto Zhuangjing Road, followed by Songren Road back to Section 5 of Xinyi Road.

Due to limited parking space around Taipei City Hall and controls being enforced in parking lots and curbside spots within the controlled zone, the Taipei City Transportation Bureau also urges citizens to take buses or the MRT. Traffic control for the 2014 New Year’s Eve Gala will be in effect from 7:00 p.m. on December 31 until 3:00 a.m. the next day. (Source: Central News Agency)
