Still basking in the joy of New Year’s Eve and welcoming the new year on your first workday? Bid farewell to the heavy clouds of the past year — this year’s sunrise on the main island was spectacular, and the outlying islands were even more beautiful. The Matsu Scenic Area Administration held the “2014 Dongju Lighthouse Sunrise Welcoming Event” at the Dongju Lighthouse, with a total of 250 locals and tourists participating. The lively scene, paired with the bright white lighthouse and azure sky, made the photos sent from the Matsu Administration truly breathtaking.

At around 6:50 AM on January 1st, the first ray of sunlight in Matsu in 2014 rose from the sea surface near Dongju Lighthouse, symbolizing the sun “rising in the east” and bringing peace to the “Ju” family. Dongju Lighthouse, also known as Dongquan Lighthouse, is the first lighthouse in Taiwan built with granite and features British-style architecture. Locals call it the “White Hair Castle,” and it was designated as a second-class historic site of Taiwan and Fujian in the 77th year of the Republic of China. The 30-meter-long white low wall, along with the grass and the sunrise, creates a stunningly beautiful scene.
