Up Close with Animals: Shoushan Zoo Adds Skywalk & Big Cats Corridor

Get up close with lions and see birds flying overhead—Kaohsiung’s Shoushan Zoo has added new facilities such as a skywalk and a big cats corridor, making it Taiwan’s first zoo offering ultra-close animal interactions. Visitors can gain an in-depth look at the lives of lions, birds, peacocks, and pheasants.

In the Big Cats Corridor, visitors can interact with lions and see them open their mouths wide to chomp on meat through the reinforced glass. However, for safety reasons, using flash photography or tapping the glass to attract the lions’ attention is strictly prohibited.

Additionally, the skywalk is paved with transparent floor tiles that can bear the weight of about 46 adults weighing 80 kilograms each. Walking on the skywalk, you can look up to see as many as 26 species of birds flying overhead, or look down to watch pheasants and peacocks pecking leisurely among the bushes.
