Rock legend Jimi Hendrix’s former home turned into a museum

While walking along Brook Street in Manchester, UK, if you spot a building with a blue circular plaque and the address 23, it’s worth stopping by — this was once the legendary rock icon Jimi Hendrix’s former residence, where many of the electric music king’s classic works were created.

The apartment on Brook Street was actually found by his then-girlfriend Kathy Etchingham. In 1968, the couple moved in at a rent of £30 per week, and Hendrix considered the place “the only real home I’ve ever had,” which shows just how meaningful it was to him.

Later, to honor this rock legend, the government affixed a blue plaque to the building in 1997, and in 2001, it was taken over by the state and leased to the Handel Museum. Today, it has received a grant of £1.2 million to become a permanent museum open to the public.
