I often joke that I’m a fake Yuanli local because I don’t live in the city center and prefer staying at home. The place I visit most is probably the 7-Eleven near my house. In fact, I was so much of a homebody that I didn’t even notice this suburban kitchen spot had been open for about six months until recently. But lately, so many new shops have opened in Yuanli that there aren’t many that really make me want to write about them. This casual fusion eatery serves hearty, generous portions. It may not be mind-blowingly delicious, but you can definitely taste the sincerity. Both the plating and the portion sizes are impressive—even the pork cutlet is so big that I feel two people could easily share one. The prices are reasonable too, making it a genuinely sincere spot worth recommending.
Suburban Kitchen is located on Zhongshan Road and has a rather eye-catching white, minimalist style. I think I walked past it once or twice but didn’t really notice. Who would’ve thought it’s already been open for half a year!! Shocked~~ What have I been so busy with lately XDDD

The decor also has a fresh and minimal vibe.

You can tell the owner put a lot of effort into creating an atmosphere within the limited space.

The bright, simple design, soft color palette, and warm lighting give off a stress-free vibe.

The long yet spacious interior offers quite a few seating options.

The mural, which looks like either a cat or a Formosan clouded leopard, is the most eye-catching corner in the shop.

Limited-Time Special:Tender Chicken Oyakodon N<饭,尝鲜价只要149元。

Here comes the menu everyone’s been waiting for. Prices range between NT$160–250, which is pretty standard for casual meals. It’s mainly fusion cuisine—Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Italian dishes are all available. For an extra NT$60, you can upgrade to a set meal (salad, garlic bread, soup).

In addition to upgrading to a set meal for NT$60, you can also pay an extra NT$49 to upgrade to crispy (Q) roast.

Add the store’s LINE friend and you’ll get a free portion of fries. Plus, you can now make reservations directly through their official LINE account—it’s pretty convenient.

Order a main dish + NT$60 to upgrade to a set meal (salad, garlic bread, soup)I’d say NT$60 isn’t really expensive, though the salad, bread, and soup are a bit underwhelming—you can take it or leave it.

Fried Pork Cutlet Curry Rice NT$180For someone who frequently visits Japan, curry is pretty much an everyday comfort food. The portion size really surprised me—the pork cutlet is so big it comes on a separate plate. Suddenly, the price feels like a great deal.

See that?! You can tell just how huge that pork cutlet is~~~

The pork cutlet is actually a bit over-fried and a little dry, tasting a bit chewy. Personally, I think it needs to be big and delicious, otherwise it becomes a bit of a burden. But I do appreciate the effort.

Maybe it was fried too long, so the pork cutlet turned out dry and lacking juiciness. Can’t help it—juicy cuts are more my thing~~~

The curry is quite Taiwanese-style, nothing too fancy but solid enough.

Hellfire Roast Chicken Rice NT$180Just look at how many sides you get!!! They even drizzle sauce on the rice~~~ And the hellfire roast chicken comes on a separate plate, with at least five pieces—probably from the thigh—and it’s tender and juicy.

Who are they trying to scare with the name “Hellfire Roast Chicken”? I’ve traveled and eaten spicy food my whole life, I’m not afraid!!! But… it really is spicy. People who can’t handle spice, don’t challenge it lightly. But I love it—it’s spicy, flavorful, tender, and juicy.

The sides are super generous and filling. Even guys would struggle to stay hungry after eating this portion.

Even if you just order a main dish, a drink is included—and it’s not a small cup either. This restaurant definitely has its shortcomings, but both the portions and variety show a lot of heart. It’s a place I’d visit again.
