Step into a Grimm's fairy tale scene！Hualien’s Matchbox Homestay features a hidden “Beetle House”

Another major highlight inside the homestay is that the owner, surnamed Li, is very fond of collecting matchboxes. In his younger years, he collected toy trains and music boxes. Now the entire first floor of the homestay has been turned into a matchbox museum, which is why guests often refer to it as the “Match Museum.” The word “Match” in the homestay name is a play on the English word for matchbox.

Matchbox Homestay Maiqu has a Beetle House, a yellow main building, and a blue cottage—three structures with a total of six rooms. Aside from the Beetle House, each room has a distinct style. The yellow main building features Spanish countryside and palace-style designs, and it houses the most spacious room in the homestay. The lavishly decorated interior skillfully incorporates classical European elements, exuding an air of elegance and luxury. The homestay is also adorned with decorative tiles and mosaic patterns in various floral designs, showcasing the owner’s aesthetic and dedication to design—a charm that makes you never want to leave once you step inside.
