Welcoming Muslim Tourists: 13 Scenic Areas Across Taiwan Equip Prayer Rooms and Ablution Facilities

Emirates Airlines will launch the Taipei–Dubai route in February. To accommodate Muslim tourists, 13 national scenic management areas across Taiwan, including the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area, have recently installed Muslim-friendly prayer facilities such as “prayer rooms” and “ablution devices.”

Muslims refer to followers of Islam (also known as Muslims). There are approximately 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide. Muslims must pray five times a day facing Mecca, including during five specific times: “Fajr (dawn prayer), Dhuhr (noon prayer), Asr (afternoon prayer), Maghrib (sunset prayer), and Isha (night prayer).” Fajr refers to dawn, Dhuhr to midday, Asr to the afternoon around 3 PM, Maghrib to sunset, and Isha to nightfall.

Before praying or worshipping, Muslims must wash their face, hands, elbows, head, and feet. Therefore, in addition to setting up “prayer rooms,” the scenic areas also provide “ablution devices” to allow visiting Muslims to perform the necessary ablutions and prayers conveniently while touring various national scenic spots across Taiwan.
