Japan offers a "14-day free WiFi card" – making it easy for travelers to stay connected

Many people traveling to Japan have one thing in common: free Wi-Fi is hard to come by. If you want to avoid expensive international roaming charges but still need to access the internet—to check in on Facebook or share your travel moments—consider getting the"14-day free WiFi card", which you can get just by showing your passport at designated locations.
The "14-day free WiFi card" from NTT East Japan is easy to obtain. Foreign travelers only need to show their passport to receive the card at specified airports, department stores, currency exchange counters, or tourist service centers in train stations. However, this service is currently limited to Sapporo in Hokkaido and certain areas in eastern Japan. It is not available in Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, etc.), Shikoku, or Kyushu.
As of the end of 2013, NTT had set up approximately 39,000 hotspots. You can connect to any of them simply by looking for the pink WiFi logo—it’s very convenient. For popular tourist cities like Tokyo, it is recommended to go to the temporary counter in Area A on the first floor of Terminal 2 at Narita Airport upon arrival to pick up the card. The distribution period is from now until March 20, 2014, and cards are given out daily from 12 noon to 9 PM on the designated date. Although Haneda Airport does not have a dedicated counter, you can pick one up at the "Travelex foreign exchange counter" while exchanging currency.
