New Taipei City is the birthplace of Wenshan Pouchong Tea, and its tea-making techniques and quality are widely recognized. This year marks the seventh consecutive year it has won the championship in the strip category at the “National Partially Fermented Tea Brewing Technique Competition,” demonstrating the excellent skills of New Taipei’s tea masters and confirming its status as authentic “gongfu tea.” “New Taipei Fine Tea” offers a wide range of varieties — besides the famous Wenshan Pouchong Tea, it also includes Biluochun, honey-flavored black tea, Oriental Beauty tea, Tieguanyin, Longshou Tea, and various other specialty teas. With winter tea now hitting the market, the Agriculture Bureau and Pinglin District Office have specially collaborated with tea farmers from various production areas to hold an exhibition and sale. In addition to promoting domestic teas, the event also aims to let the public taste the sweet flavors of New Taipei’s finest teas.

Wang Chengyi, chairman of the Pinglin District Farmers’ Association, teaches everyone how to select and taste Wenshan Pouchong Tea — the tea leaves are tightly rolled and slender in shape, with a vibrant green color, and the tea liquor is honey-green. Its most distinctive feature is the aroma — when brewed, it emits a fragrant, floral scent, with a mellow and sweet aftertaste. The Agriculture Bureau stated that this year’s New Taipei Fine Tea Winter Tea municipal evaluation saw 969 entries, with only 685 selected — an elimination rate of nearly 30%. Additionally, New Taipei City has implemented the “Tea Clarity Program,” during which the Agriculture Bureau strictly conducts sampling inspections throughout the competition period to ensure consumer safety, guaranteeing truly safe and reassuring fine teas.
