Nyuto Onsen is located in Akita Prefecture, Japan, nestled in a secluded forest. A nearby mountain resembles a nipple, hence the name "Nyuto-yama" (Nipple Mountain), which gave the hot spring area its name. (Photo provided by our media group)
Before the peak of summer arrives, springtime in Akita is the perfect time to visit. Nyuto Onsen Village in Akita is one of Japan’s most renowned hot spring resorts and among the most sought-after by locals. The Facebook page “Explore Akita” posted on the 8th that “Kuroyu Onsen” (Black Hot Spring), which was closed last winter, has recently reopened. Now, with the “Onsen Tour Bus,” you can embark on a forest bathing and hot spring journey in Japan, soaking in all the therapeutic waters of Nyuto Onsen Village to your heart’s content.
Nyuto Onsen Village in Akita Prefecture, Japan, is situated at the foot of Mount Nyuto within Hachimantai National Park. The hot spring area features over ten different types of thermal waters, with seven major hot spring inns scattered throughout the forested mountains. These include the popular “Tsurunoyu,” the stylish “Taenoyu,” the schoolhouse-turned “Ogama Onsen,” the nature-immersed “Kanbayashi Onsen,” the so-called “mountain medicine hot spring” “Sonboku Onsen,” the modern-style “Kyuukamura,” and the “Kuroyu Onsen,” where you can see natural spring water bubbling up from the ground.
Each hot spring in Nyuto Onsen Village is more mysterious than the last. To experience all the hot springs in the village, the “Onsen Tour Bus” comes with an “Onsen Tour Brochure” and “Onsen Tour Map” (excluding the cost of entry to the baths). Travelers can purchase these at the counters of each hot spring facility and take the Onsen Tour Bus around the village to enjoy all seven ryokan in Nyuto Onsen, experiencing the charm of the hidden hot springs in Senboku City.
